Members of the German Left Party, Bundestag deputy Ulla Jelpke (Berlin), Hamburg state lawmaker Martin Dolzer and Hassan Burgujuoghlu, a member of Altona City Council, are in Armenia these days, they also visited Artsakh and met with the functionaries. On May 19, at the press conference in “Noyan Tapan”, Martin Dolzer said that he is impressed by the visits. He stated that they knew what war means. He also addressed the recognition of the Armenian Genocide in Germany thanks to the efforts of his party. “We want to enter the issue of the responsibility and complicity of the Germany in the resolution to be passed in Bundestag on June 2, but the recognition of the Armenian Genocide is more important for us to avoid the recurrence of such activities in the future. Once, the German Reich was very well informed thru its doctors, officers, consuls about what is happening in the region but Germany was turning the blind eye to it. Moreover, they continued to support their ally Turkey.
Unfortunately, today, our government is still in very close cooperation with Turkey, and we do not see a criticism against the Kurds regarding Turkey’s policy. Erdoğan’s government is pursuing a deconstructive policy, it supports Azerbaijan also in the context of recent events (Karabakh conflict – G. H.). According to our sources, Turkey was involved in the recent activities. As a party of peace, we know what war, torture, crimes against humanity are. Therefore, we want the issue to be resolved by peaceful means and human rights and the principle of self-determination is emphasizes instead of regional interests and ambitions,” – said Martin Dolzer. He also met with the students at YSU. Mr. Dolzer believes that it would be appropriate if the theme of the Armenian Genocide is included in the textbooks in Germany, in that case, according to him, the issue will be considered from a different angle, and the education will contribute to it.
