Recently, one of my friends told me “and do you think it accidental that this country does not need people like you and me?” I did not agree, saying that we all are needed: the baker in its place, the doctor, the teacher and the journalist in its place. And it is not necessarily to bear some shoulder straps. Especially now when the rival’s the new and larger-scale attack is expected, I personally think that I bring benefit to the state with my job. But if necessary, I am ready to do anything until the visible (overly visible) threat of the war is gone. I know that many people (especially in the virtual space and especially those who do not live in Armenia) do not agree with me; they will give names of authorities and the rich whom they (also, I) do not like and would say, “I do not want to deal with this state.” I understand and do not want to argue, simply everyone is going by its way.
Some of those who had emigrated during the past 20 years have returned during this 4-day war in April to fight. They were ready to be deceased in the frontline, but they are not ready to live in an imperfect homeland. Why? I think the explanation is simple: they see the Armenian state in the trenches, but they do not see any state in other places. They see arrogant, ignorant and detached from reality officials and having this scene in front of their eye every day us a more severe experience than fighting against the enemy a few days or even a few weeks. I also understand this and am not going to assume the role of a judge on this issue (as well as any other issue).
Simply, it seems to me that at this point, the trench is not only in Talish or Hadrut. In the 21st century, war is going on in the economy, in a broad sense, in culture and people’s minds. If the brain is desolate and uncultivated then so will be the land, and if the land is so, then I’m afraid the position and the trench could be the same too. Everything is correlated. Ultimately, the “position” and the “land” are not an end in itself, the only and ultimate goal is the Man living on this land that is not facing the danger of extermination and subjected to genocide.
100 years ago, we were unable to withstand the project implemented by the same ethnic group and the same methods because we did not have a state and an army, now we have, good or bad but still have. I, for example, when writing or saying a word, I am thinking whether it will strengthen my state and the army or weaken it. Certainly, the temptation is great to obtain the reputation of a “boy speaking with courage”. But let us leave these temptations for younger people.
