June 01,2016 13:38

The Yerevan State University hosted the solemn ceremony of awarding Spanish writer, publicist and architect Gonzalo Guarch with a certificate of the title of Honorary Doctor of YSU and gilt medal of YSU. The Spanish writer is an author of 28 literary and artistic works, in which he expresses his frustration and rebellion against the crimes of humanity: genocide, wars and violence. He is the author of three voluminous novels on the Armenian Genocide. His trilogy dedicated to the Armenian people consists of three parts: “The Armenian Family Tree,” the “Armenian Testament,” and “White Mountain”. He has studied the Armenian cause, the Genocide process and the silence of Europe very well.

Talking to the journalists, Mr. Guarch said that he is going to work on the fourth volume, “These people have suffered a lot throughout the history. It has endured the most horrible atrocities. Nevertheless, it continues to be a united nation. We must ensure that everybody recognizes the Armenian Genocide. When someone penetrates to a depth of the problem and begins to explore, he no longer is able and wants to come out. I have studied genocide and violence all my life, and I am planning to do it until the end of my life.”

The Spanish writer notes that he is anxious about what is now going on in Karabakh, “My heart is with the mothers who are waiting for their sons. I have two houses in my soul: I am Spanish and Armenian. I have always been of the opinion that poets are advancing the world. Politicians think that they are advancing the world, but the world is advancing only through words and speech.” Mr. Guarch, being also an architect and frequently visiting Armenia, expressed an opinion about Armenia’s architecture. He said that he liked the Armenian classical and modern architecture very much. It is worthy of high respect and praise. “The country is gradually prospering, and women are becoming more beautiful. It is my pleasure to be here. When I am here, I feel myself Armenian and my wife – an Armenian woman.” The event was attended by Minister of Culture, Hasmik Poghosyan, who thinks that any foreign nationality person who talks about the Armenian Genocide is beneficial for the fate and history of our people, “It is one thing that we tell our history and another thing when a stranger is telling, moreover, artistically, by getting into detail of human history and the species of Armenians. The characters of women that he presents in his books are vivid proof of it. He does not refer to the problem formally, and perhaps it is because of this that his characters are expressive and convincing.”
