“The Bundestag decision was a serious moral and psychological blow to the Turkish side,” – said Director of Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute, Hayk Demoyan, on June 6, in the “Dialogue” Press Club, at the meeting with journalists. According to him, after the decision of the Bundestag, there is almost no place for Turkey for maneuvering, both in the academic field and calling a commission of historians, “This blow was quite powerful to the Turkish positions, of which, one might say, almost nothing is left.” Hayk Demoyan thinks that Turkey’s defence line cannot be what it was like 5 years ago. He believes that there might also be a new modified version – a soft denial, “We can say that after this decision, almost nothing is left from the denial policy contributed and elaborated for decades. The reasons are known: Germany being the successor of Turkey’s ally country in the WWI in fact closed a chain. It was the chain of accomplices: Austria-Hungary and Germany, which at the time could and had the potential not to stop the genocide but not to allow it.” He stressed that Germany is the EU’s engine and many countries may follow the example of Germany, “No counter-argument will work here. This was a serious moral and psychological defeat to the Turkish denial and Turkish state that has adopted this policy in the last few decades.”
