“It is so sad that, either in this either in the other two the other international powers were looking on the other side”
While visiting Armenia Pope Francis met President Sargsyan and also visited Presidential Palace. In his speech Pope Francis also spoke of Armenian genocide, while there were opinions that though Pope will visit Armenia’s genocide memorial, but he is expected to avoid using the word “genocide”, in an effort to prevent an outcry from Turkey.
“The occasion was the commemoration of the centenary of the Metz Yeghérn, the “Great Evil”, that genocide that struck your people and caused the death of a vast multitude of persons. Sadly, that tragedy was the first of the deplorable series of catastrophes of the past century, made possible by twisted racial, ideological or religious aims that darkened the minds of the tormentors even to the point of planning the annihilation of entire peoples. it is so sad that, either in this either in the other two the other international powers were looking on the other side”,- he said.
Pope Francis’s three-day visit to Armenia began on Friday, June 24th. He has already visited, Presidential Palace, Mother Cathedral of Holy Etchmiadzin. He is also expected to visit Armenian Genocide Memorial Complex, Gyumri: second largest city of Armenia, with His Holiness Karekin II Pope Francis is expected to offer Ecumenical Service and Peace Prayer in the Republic Square of Yerevan. During his visit Pope is also going to offer Pontifical Divine Liturgy in the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin with His Holiness Karekin II, meet Armenian Church delegations and visit Khor Virap church.
