“Let us not associate this issue with ID cards, they are in this process for a long time, and bringing several thousand signatures, they say that people are against, it is a problem to find a solution,” – said Chairman of the NA Committee on State and Legal Affairs, Hovhannes Sahakyan, in an interview with Aravot.am.
The problem is that the “Against Numbering of People” movement, driven by a single document in the upcoming elections – the ID cards -, is again getting ready for a large-scale anti-campaign. They have sent a letter to the NA MPs, warning, “The introduction of identification cards forcedly, as well as coercion of fingerprints, is a violation of the Constitution of Armenia, as it violates the presumption of innocence and is offensive in many sense, as well as a cruel attitude. We also urge that there are many methods to falsify the elections where the fingerprints in principle cannot be helpful. For example, the authorities by rude and violent force will eventually destroy the ballots of the voters and substitute them with their desired vote by maintaining the number of ballots. There will also be a bribe of voters or the commission.” Hovhannes Sahakyan says that he has accepted the initiators of the movement and after talking they have agreed to collect additional information and hold a discussion with the attendance of all interested parties.
