We, Armenians, have an interesting habit: paying overly much attention to the words that are pronounced by various officials about our country or our problems. Aliyev, Novruz Mammadov, Putin, Lavrov and Zakharova have their own views on this-or-that matter and the country, they represent the interests of their countries the way they understand. But what is the sense, as they say, of discussing their words “nationwide”, to disclose the nuances and look for implications. This is, of course, the task of the political scientists and analysts explain to us who wanted to say what, what was the point of the words and what was behind the texts. But to be on edge because of every word and expand it as a truth of the final instance or as a “fatal” word that will necessarily have a decisive significance on the further developments of the events, it is the manifestation of our worrying and somewhere “panic” character.
Whether Maria Zakharova thinks that Garegin Nzhdeh was a Nazi or, let’s say, a social-democrat, it does not matter, eventually, she is not the most prominent historian. Whether Aliyev wants us to handover Artsakh, as well as Syunik, Sevan and Yerevan, let him live with his dreams. Wishing, as they say, is not harmful. Whether the Russians and Turks are fighting or make up with, there is also no need to “mourn” or, vice versa, to rejoice over it long. Certainly, it is necessary to know what is going on in the world but it should be only “take into account” rather than build your conduct exclusively driven by the conduct of others.
It’s a bit like our domestic political fight when the political party members are talking only about what their opponents have done or are doing but never about what they are doing. The maximum they say that they are going to shape a fair Armenia but they do not say how exactly. As a man is able to influence the situation only when he is working on himself rather than listing the “deeds” of others, as a political force can have success if apart from criticizing the opponents, it would try to make its own programs convincing, so as the state is powerful when it is busy with strengthening its institutions, without paying particular attention to who says what. The aliens and their interests, in this case, become an instrument for achieving your goals. Let them interpret our words.
