Human rights activist Artur Sakunts has appealed to international human rights organizations and the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights for the persecution against Zhirayr Sefilyan. “We are waiting for some feedback. Currently, they are implementing their functions on collecting information and confirming,” – said Mr. Sakunts

'Partnership for Open Society' initiative organized a public debate around the draft of the new electoral code of Armenia at Congress Hotel

Referring to the detention of Tatul Manukyan, a member of “Founding Parliament” and brother of war veteran Pavel Manukian, Mr. Sakunts noted that a criminal case has been filed against him for the illegal keeping of ammunition, and it is an objective fact, “You cannot consider it as a political persecution. Whereas the criminal persecution against Zhirayr Sefilyan is definitely a political persecution, there is absolutely no substantiation neither bringing accusation not exercising an arrest as a precautionary measure because it refers to such an action that allegedly he has initiated armed attacks, attacking the TV tower and so on, which are totally groundless. Moreover, they are connecting it with such people with whom they have disclosed weapons, according to the Investigation Committee, as a result of the search during a car accident one month ago. A month later, allegedly an evidence was given that Zhirayr Sefilyan is connected to all this, definitely this evidence was obtained illegally, through violence and pressure. The accusations are brought on the basis of one evidence and it is a criminal persecution is carried out against one person by the evidence of one person.”
