More than 10 young people were detained today near regiment of the police patrol and inspection service. Among detained citizens were member of “No to Plunder” initiative Maxim Sargsian, daughters of the member of “Founding Parliament” Garo Yeghnukian, daughter and wife of the member of “Founding” Parliament Varuzhan Avetisian. Maxim Sargsian has already been released.
In Arthur Sakunts’ opinion Police continue to violate the human rights without any justifications, as it is their working style. According to human rights defender it is an absolute manhunt: “According to the principles of segregation it is called manhunt. That is if these people have connections with members of “Founding Parliament” (FP), then they continue the illegal actions towards FP members’ relatives. Moreover it is not only about detaining them without any justification, but is also about deprivation of legal support. Lawyers are not allowed to enter Police Departments”.
To our question, that by detaining his wife and daughter do they want to influence on Varuzhan Avetisian, human rights defender answered: “I don’t consider that it will influence on Avetisian’s further steps. It is almost as same as to take them as hostages. It is clear that they have calculated all the possible steps”.
Police prevented a march from Liberty square to regiment of the police patrol and inspection service, to our question does it mean that the government is afraid of something, Arthur Sakunts answered: “The problem is that the government does not want to state that society don’t perceive people who are in regiment of the police patrol and inspection service as threats to their lives and security. There is an obvious tendency to show that these people are threats not only for government but also for society, which is not true. For example the NSS statement is baseless. The government is trying to show that they care about society”.

“As a result of the ambush, the lives of the people who are held against their will continue to be endangered. The terrorists, who have already committed several crimes and have large amounts of weapons and ammunitions at their disposal, pose an obvious and direct danger not only for the hostages, but also for the public”, is said in NSS statement.
