Let them have the nights in peace

July 19,2016 11:26

I am writing this article now, which you will read tomorrow in the morning but at this time, it is not yet clear whether the authorities will organize an attack on the armed group that has seized the SPS territory. I am very much eager not to see it happen. First of all, because no political problem deserves a drop of blood shed, and secondly, because therewith, the government will not solve any problem but only to deepen radical sentiments and intolerance in our society.

And the level of it is currently very high. After the April war, it seemed to me that this aggressiveness has mitigated, and along with all discrepancies, our citizens have begun respecting each other more and convey more heat to each other. But now, it seems to be not the case, people are speaking to each other in the language of hatred, as the stage director Ruben Babayan rightly noted yesterday, to some extent they even “understand each other” in this destroying-each other, “zero-sum” game.

Reconciling them and finding communication elements, which I think is one of the missions of the intellectuals, is very difficult. If you by chance are “mistaken” and say that the armed attack on the police building, taking a hostage, moreover, killing a policeman is illegal and deadlock, the revolutionists will immediately “attack” you and attributing various labels to you, will remind all illegalities of 25 years in this country. But if you say that the guys of the armed group are not terrorists and are our citizens, whose concerns we must listen to and understand, the opposite side will say that we are “providing a platform for the criminals.”

Anyway, no need to be disappointed, no need to give up and say, “eat each other.” No, this is the wrongest position. And no need to be offended when the two sides do not understand you. The problem is not to be liked by anyone, also by the “people”, the problem is to hold the two sides back from insanities and meaningless violence. In my perception, for example, holding people massively on the street for no reason and taking to the police station is not only illegal but also insanity and stupidity, it again does not solve any problem but only exacerbates the situation.

… OMG! Let anything happen to the political aspect. Let the regime change happen or not. Let even Kocharyan supporters come. But not a bloodshed.

Armenian Renaissance tried an idea, to find out if they can rally enough number of the population to force the regime to meet their demands. They failed, obviously. They have some support but not a massive one to make a difference. They should now negotiate and give up before more unnecessary blood is shed.

Wishful thinking does not equal objective analysis of reality based on data, survey’s, etc.

One reason we end up with incompetent, mediocre governments is that the opposition is incompetent and mediocre.
