Gagik Sarukhanyan, a war veteran and member of the “Founding Parliament”, expressed an opinion in Khorenatsi Street that the attack by “Sasna Tsrer” group on the Patrol regiment was a desperate move, “The guys have gone to a desperate move. You are going to live in tomorrow’s Armenia, these guys do not want to live in this Armenia” The “Founding Parliament” has organized numerous rallies demanding the resignation of Serzh Sargsyan. A limited number of people are always gathered in these rallies. It should be noted that the “Founding Parliament” failed to raise the public and organize powerful rallies, which would result in a change of power, perhaps slowly, perhaps a long-lasting process, however, the people do not consolidate with the “Founding Parliament”.
Whether this also caused desperation with the guys that they went to radical moves and carried out an armed attack (note that one of the demands of “Sasna Tsrer” group is the resignation of Serzh Sargsyan and the release of Zhirayr Sefilyan and other political prisoners), during which a policeman Arthur Vanoyan was killed. In response to this question, Mr. Sarukhanyan said that he extend his condolences to the family of the police officer and then continued, “Can you suggest another option?” Our offer was to participate in the elections and achieve a change of power through the vote of the people. In this regard, Sarukhanyan said that there is no need to cite that they were unable to gather a large number of people. “Look, NUP UNSD was following this way since the 60-ies until 1991 until we obtained independence. Independence is not yet a guarantee to be free. Now, it is the 2nd phase. We will receive freedom after independence, if it needs years, we will go in this way too. I just want to say whether you have guarantees that there are people in the public who do not want to wait 20 years, they do not want to fight for 20 years but want to see justice today and tomorrow, and will take such steps. Not everybody is filled with patience and are ready to be demoted to the literate fight until the end of their life. Please, understand me, there are thieves and heroes and weak-willed people among the society, now I just want to say, the emphasis on the guys is as such: terrorists, as if we are listening to a newsfeed from Mexico that a certain castle was seized to bring their drug baron out.”
Sarukhanyan said, look at the guys biography, “How did it happen that they were shedding blood for the freedom of all of us, and today they become a terrorist. They are guys who have come out to a political struggle and did not reach success.” To our question of whether you think that the majority of our society want to achieve results with weapons, specifically saying, a change of power, establishment of legitimacy, Sarukhanyan said, “I cannot say anything, I have not made inquiries. But I have taken part in the poll on the referendum and I can definitely say that 70 percent of the respondents have said “no” to the new Constitution. Now, when you ask this question to me whether the great part of the population wants an armed struggle, I do not have the answer to this question. And I am saying, are you sure that people will not emerge again who would want to solve the problem with weapons. The direct connection of the wish to solve the problem with arms is coming from the government as they have allowed such a desire to mature in people.”
