Liana Manusajyan, a lawyer and resident of Erebuni administrative community told Aravot.am that she has received a lot of calls about the violence by the police against the children and their parents during the incidents happened at night. One of the phone-callers is a 16 years old whose information the lawyer deemed unnecessary to publish. He told the following: “We were attacked by explosives and we ran to hide in someone’s house to protect ourselves.
They were seizing our phones and breaking them. An explosive blew out in the house next to us and I helped the mother and two children to come out and go to another house. These children were shouting, crying and one of them asked the mother, “Is daddy killed or wounded?” Because their father was beaten up in front of their eyes.” Liana told that the underage caller was a participant of the protest but the children whom he helped were in the yard of their house at the moment when the explosive blew out.
They also were injured, “He told us that the children were running to and fro trying to enter houses and mothers had followed them and were also beaten up. Those who were beating the citizens were police in both uniforms and plainclothes who were beating with batons. I told him to take a photo for the evidence. He tries to take a photo but they noticed his and broke the cameras.” Liana Manusajyan emphasized that in accordance with the International Convention on Children’s Rights, even during the protests, the police or a public official have no right to perform such actions that will cause a damage to the child’s physical health. The lawyer noted that the aggrieved children had not only physical health problems but have also seen how their family members are beaten up.
