The Office of the Prosecutor General of Armenia launched criminal investigation to look into the cases of violence and brutality against journalists in Yerevan in the night of July 29-30.
According to the press statement released by the Office of the Prosecutor General, “during the clashes in Khorenatsi street and Sari Tagh neighborhood of Yerevan in the night of July 29-30 some journalists were injured while fulfilling their professional duties, and their equipments had been damaged”.
A criminal case has been launched to invesitgate the aforementioned brutality against the journalists on the basis of Article 164 of the Criminal Code (impeding the lawful professional activities of journalists).
The materials of the criminal cases have been delivered to the Special Investigation Service.
In the meantime, according to the press statement, the Office of the Prosecutor General reached out to the media organisations in question (Armenia TV company, RFE/RL Armenian Service, a1plus.am, 1in.am, lragir.am, panorama.am, civilnet.am, news.am, armlur.am), as well as others in the scene, asking to provide the available evidence in their possession to be utilised in the criminal proceedings that will follow.
