Frank Engel, member of European Parliament, posted on his Facebook page.
“I’m worried about what’s happening to Turkey now – but somehow nothing Erdogan now stages can rattle me, it has always been in the cards of post-Ottoman megalomany. I’m much more worried about what happens in Armenia now – and what might happen if authorities and security forces don’t get their act together.
A nation looking back on 3000 years of civilisation deserves a functioning and predictable state. It deserves economic development and reliable infrastructure. It deserves a future of prosperity in its country. Right now, it looks more likely that within another generation, there would be no-one left in the country to develop it. I’ve seen the depopulation everywhere outside Yerevan. I know the appalling conditions of life in remote regions. Russia will not improve this, just like Turkey and Azerbaidjan are not the cause of it. Only Armenia can and must decide that it wants to move ahead.
I love Armenia. I’d like to help in any way that makes sense – and there are many others who’d like to do the same. How can that be done, if at all? Any suggestions from friends welcome!”
