Canada will not tolerate such blatant violations of human rights in the Republic of Armenia: open letter to Justin Trudeau

August 04,2016 09:04

Toronto, Canada

Dear Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau

We want to bring to your immediate attention the brutality and human rights violations taking place at this very moment in the Republic of Armenia.

The Armenian community of Ontario is deeply disturbed by the degree of violence the Armenian government is carrying out against its own people. As this letter is being written, hundreds of people are detained, abused, subjected to torture by the enforcers of Armenia’s police state, all without any cause, or due legal process. Those targeted by violence include journalists, reporters, and most of the organizers of peaceful demonstration in the past week and a half.

Please watch the statement made by the US Ambassador to Armenia yesterday, July 29th.

Human rights violations, illegal arrests, and violence against peaceful citizens are now the mode of operation by the heavily militarized, criminal government, and the intensity of violence is only increasing. The Armenian community in the United States cannot and will not be a helpless bystander to injustice. This is why owe are compelled to take actions as Canadians.

We urge you to insure that all possible means are employed to make clear to the current Armenian government that the Canada will not tolerate such blatant violations of human rights. Such a nation cannot remain a Canadian ally, and enjoy any kind of Canadian support.

Furthermore, we would like to provide you with more detail about the demands of the Armenian community.

First, the immediate release of political prisoners who have systematically been captured, and jailed over the last decades.

Second, the resignation of president Serzh Sarksyan, and dissemination of current parliament. Immediate investigation of properties and businesses acquired by political leaders or their relatives in Canada for possible money laundry. Condemnation of government corruption.

Third, to clear the name of the group of individuals who have seized the police station from being labeled as “terrorist.” They represent the vast majority of the Armenian population, who are fed up with living in a country without laws or freedom of speech. This is their desperate cry for attention, both from the Armenian government as well as the international community.

Forth, Immediate release of all who were arrested during this 14 day period and dismissal of all cases against them in the police stations.

The Sasna Tsrer group are not terrorists, they are our heroes, who have made the ultimate sacrifice, putting their very lives at stake to finally bring to light the many social and political crimes that have been carried out by this illegitimate regime for over 25 years.

I have been personally attacked by gang members of Serj Sarkisyan regime during one of my visits to Armenia. Police and all other state institutions falsified the Criminal Case and it has been over 3 years that I can not achieve any justice under corrupt regime of Serj Sarkisyan.

Please help voice this concern.
