NKR President’s Spokesperson David Babayan considers the formation and existence of the Artsakh Republic as an achievement of 25 years of independent Artsakh. “For it was able to confront Azerbaijan’s aggression, blockade, massacres and all trials in this difficult situation and build up strong grounds for the development,” – said Mr. Babayan to Aravot.am. According to him, the Artsakh success is due to the common efforts of all Armenians and the Diaspora: “The RA-Artsakh-Diaspora trinity has been, is and will remain the guarantee of all our victories.”
Today, political analyst Hayk Martirosyan claimed that Artsakh failed to obtain full independence because a significant part of Artsakh is under Azerbaijan’s control. “We are dealing with a game, we have created a game, which was a diplomatic game, in our opinion, to deceive the extremely smart world and to leave a room for us to maneuver but we deceived one ourselves and not anybody but us,”- said the political analyst. Mr. Babayan was reluctant to refer to the opinion of the political analyst about the incomplete independence of Artsakh. “Is this said by an Armenian political analyst or a Baku political analyst? This is my answer and I cannot say anything else.”
As to which should be the next move for the proclamation of Artsakh: a unification to Armenia or being recognized as a subject of the international law, different politicians give different opinions and estimates, Mr. Babayan has one answer to this question: “All these who make this type of speculations either they do not understand what they are talking about or are emotional and do not understand again what they are talking about, or are guided by external forces: Turkey, Azerbaijan, who seeing that Armenia’s statehood restoration, irrespective of Armenia’s or Artsakh’s statehood restoration, is a great victory are trying to introduce disunity among Armenians. Some people take the bait. What does it mean: Armenia has not recognized Artsakh independence or Artsakh is not recognized? What, have we become independent for recognition? What is independence for us? Yes, we want and strive to be recognized but it is not an end in itself, moreover, it should not become a fixed idea. We have gained independence at the cost of blood, we see the guarantee of our existence in the independence. Abasing that we are not recognized, so our independence is not complete, I think, is not only wrong but also very dangerous because therewith they are trying to undermine the foundations of our state. One state has not recognized, tomorrow it can recognize, in addition, even if they do, we are not going to give up our independence.”
