“Karen Karapetyan evidently has problems with some of the ARF ministers.”  Styopa Safaryan

September 17,2016 17:05

Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan’s decision on dismissal of a number of government employees means that he has a certain degree of freedom to gather his own team.  This is what political analyst Styopa Safaryan thinks.  “Until where this freedom extends is still hard to say because Hovik Abrahamyan also had freedom and brought his own personnel: Arpine Hovhannisyan, Davit Harutyunyan, Davit Lokyan and so on.  Sine Karen Karapetyan should obviously review the economic and political trends, he shows with these freedoms that he is going to work with other team members.  We will understand the complete signals when the appointments begin.

One thing is clear that he will definitely gather his team, as to which the main areas will be, today we see that one of them is the fiscal direction.  In other words, review of the tax administration and practice, perhaps it also speaks of the dismissal of Gagik Khachatryan and the review of the policy in general, his several statements made in the Parliament: improvement of business environment and so on,” – said Styopa Safaryan.

To our question that there were remarks made to some ministers by the prime minister during the first session in participation of the newly appointed prime minister, so whether this was an expression of dissatisfaction with their job or a sign of not working with them in the future, Mr. Safaryan replied, “I think that the real target was not Artsvik Minasyan (ed. One of the remarks was addressed to Artsvik Minasyan).  In my opinion, it was the option of “I tell you, but let it be a hint for the other”, by entering into a debate with Artsvik Minasyan, Karen Karapetyan obviously has problems with the ARF ministers, it seems to me that it, first of all, refers to David Lokyan and Levon Mkrtchyan.

In any case, since Karen Karapetyan must take the economic bloc, maybe it is Artsvik Minasyan’s problem too, not so much in his professionalism but the fact that Karen Karapetyan himself must give a direction to the Ministry of Economy, economy must be one of the main attacking directions of the Prime Minister and Karen Karapetyan wants to see his man here.  This means that the ARF party either should agree with Karen Karapetyan’s nominated staff member or get something different instead of this portfolio.  I am more inclined to think that the problem is in other ARF ministers as they are not reformers, in particular, Davit Lokyan.  Therefore, they will come to an agreement with regard to the revision of some ARF party candidates.”
