On September 17, the exhibition “Ways of Migration” which represents the fate of 50 people was opened in Aram Khachaturian House-Museum. The photos had information attached from the life of Syrian-Armenians, repatriates. Hrach Melkonyan, born in Aleppo, for example, has fought as a volunteer in the army of Syria government and then moved to Armenia. He is living in the refugee hostel and is working in the zoo in Yerevan as a security guard. In another case, the heroes of the photos have worked in Russia for some time but have returned to their native village.
Photographers Vigen Mnoyan and German Avagyan have immortalized the heroes of such stories. The latter, in an interview with reporters, noted that very few Armenians managed to avoid work migrant status, “I was also a migrant … I have lived and worked in the US, not by my specialty, then I have decided that it would be better to be busy with your beloved work in the homeland.” Vigen Mnoyan noted that he has also once worked abroad – in Moscow. As to why he had returned, he said, “Because there is homeland, parents, friends, house …”
To add the exhibition is an initiative of the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) under the framework of “Support to Migration and Border Management in Armenia” program.
