The court of General Jurisdiction of Syunik marz has recognized Syunik Governor Surik Khachatryan’s brother and nephews guilty by the lawsuit of the incident happened to Zakaryan brothers in Sdghi Gyol and sentenced them to prison for the term of 6 months to the brother, one year – one of the nephews, Eyner Khachatryan, and 2.5 years to Mayis Khachatryan. In this regard, Heritage MP Zaruhi Postanjyan, in an interview with Aravot.am, reminded thanks to whom Mayis Khachatryan who had committed a dire crime – an intentional homicide with hooligan motives many years ago, was released. By the decree of the President Serzh Sargsyan, Mayis Khachatryan was pardoned. This is in the case when he has stabbed a young man to death, a 30-year-old Hovhannes Badalyan, just for touching their shoulder. He was injured with dozens of stab wounds, including pushing the knife into the anus and tearing up. At that time, Mayis Khachatryan, according to the materials of the case file, had stabbed 12 times and was sentenced to 12 years in prison. And here, as a result of the President’s inexplicable pardon, just one month after being released from prison, Mayis Khachatryan driving the car drunk caused the 24-year-old young man appear in the hospital. And now, he is convicted by the lawsuit of Zakaryans.
As Zaruhi Postanjyan said, “It is not the first time that Surik Khachatryan’s relatives appear in the attention of law enforcement agencies, and it is not the first time that they are convicted. It is not the first time that the punishment against them is not proportionate.” Zaruhi Postanjyan is confident that Surik Khachatryan’s nephew should not be included in the list of crimes for pardoning for which he was convicted, no pardon is granted for such crimes, “While Surik Khachatryan and his close relatives, being representatives of the criminal world, the punishment against them is not administered proportionately. They are enjoying the patronage of Serzh Sargsyan, and it is not accidental. Surik Khachatryan has always provided services to the criminal oligarchic system, accordingly, he is granted privileges for the services. Either there is a disproportionate punishment against them, or no punishment at all.” Hence, Zaruhi Postanjyan urges not to be surprised that the court has made a verdict against Surik Khachatryan’s relatives. It is still a question whether they will bear their punishment or not.
