Ilham Aliyev may remain as a president for two or three decades

October 04,2016 14:30

“Ilham Aliyev legislatively strengthened the ruling positions of his family and may remain as a president for two or three decades,” – said former NKR Foreign Minister Arman Melikyan, in an interview with “Aravot”, in response to the question as to what effect will the Constitutional referendum held in Azerbaijan leave on this country’s future political developments and what to expect from our neighbor.  “This means that we should not expect that Azerbaijan’s policy on Artsakh might be mitigated under his tenure.

Consequently, either we will change our own negotiating approaches and will form a system of arguments ensuring the best of our interests, which is also a program of appropriate steps to present to them, or we will again have to confront the Azerbaijani armed forces on the battlefield.  I am inclined to the view that the Armenians still maintain the opportunities of ensuring their own interests through peace but this requires serious professional working,” – said our interlocutor.
