According to the political scientist Manvel Sargsyan, Azerbaijan’s and Russia’s joint statement on the production of tactical missiles is a subsequent move by Russia to flatter Azerbaijan. “It refers to the airplanes,” – said the political scientist more specifying the rumors about the joint production of missiles. According to him, Russia is trying to appease Azerbaijan by the joint production, “This could be an offer to appease Azerbaijan and using the advantage of the situation because after the demonstration of “Iskanders”, various talks were raised as to why Russia provided, in other words, Russia attempts to involve Azerbaijan in its plans. But this attempt should be considered in the connotation of Russia’s policy: when Russia provides weapons to Azerbaijan, on the one hand, and then sells weapons to Armenia and thus runs its policy.”
Mr. Sargsyan also talked about the statement by Azerbaijan that they are going to acquire “Iron Dome”, which can intercept “Iskander”. “There is no problem of intercepting “Iskander”. A member of their Majlis has made such a statement that they are agreeing with Israel to acquire an anti-missile device known as an “Iron Dome”. But either it was just a statement or this person was unaware that the “Iron Dome” is not designed for such missiles. It is a device designed for lower and closer distance flying missiles,” – said Mr. Sargsyan to Aravot.am. Note that Azerbaijani MP Yevda Abramov was the one who has made the “sensational” statement about “Iron Dome”.
