“The situation in Aleppo is terrible. We should have tried to solve the problems of our compatriots a long time ago. Armenia is not the best country, where they would like to live but we should try to create conditions for them. The Syrian-Armenian community already settled in Yerevan is quite actively participating in our economic life,”- said Director of “Noravank” scientific-educational Foundation, Gagik Harutyunyan, referring to the moving of our compatriots from Aleppo that has become a military stage”.
He opines that Armenia should develop and implement a repatriation program for Syrian-Armenians. In his words, irrespective of the fact whether the forces of Syrian President Bashar Assad will manage to take Aleppo or not, our countrymen have nothing else to do there, “I understand that there are a lot of cultural values and other problems but we should try to resettle them, primarily in Armenia”. Gagik Harutyunyan noted at the same time that Armenia does not have the resources to carry out repatriation of Syrian-Armenians, “Unfortunately, so far we see only abandoning of the homeland.”
