Yesterday, the autumn plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) held a debate entitled “The situation in Turkey in the light of the attempted coup.” Members of the Armenian delegation: RPA MP Samvel Farmanyan and the Head of ARF faction Armen Rustamyan, came up with a proposal to return Turkey to the monitoring process. Head of the Armenian delegation to PACE Hermine Naghdalyan although waiting for her turn, but it did not come and she did not make her speech, however, her speech is included in the minutes of the session.
The written text of the speech particularly reads, “Very recently we were discussing the issue related to the activities of the democratic institutions in Turkey. As you may recall, various standpoints were voiced during the discussions. We were highly concerned about the misdevelopments in the country and supported the idea of the re-opening of the monitoring process. Today, this issue is more than urgent due to the sharp turnover, which Turkey made on the ways of its democratization.” Aravot.am asked Naira Karapetyan, a member of the Armenian delegation to PACE, who attended the session how the PACE accepted this offer made by the Armenian delegates, she responded, with applauses.
