Light answers to light questions

October 14,2016 12:09

Journalists like to ask “acute” household question to the legislators and officials: where did you get this tie from, or are the dishes in your family made of porcelain?  First of all, therewith, they make their own share of contribution in the fight against corruption, and secondly, in the case of such questions, there is no need to read an article to ask a question related to the work.

I like how the newly appointed Minister of Health Levon Altunyan answers such questions.  He does not take a look of a profound philosopher or a pure angel and speaks like he would speak at home or in the café.  My colleagues, for example, are interested in the corruption in the medical sphere, naively thinking that it is expressed by taking a cognac or flowers after the provision of a healthcare service.  Altunyan honestly answers, I take the cognac but no one has offered me flowers.

In the Soviet Union, where the healthcare was allegedly free, truly everything was based on this petty corruption: often the surgeon was not operating until you were not putting some money into the pocket of his surgical coat, the nurse would not start doing anything until you have not given her a ruble.  In 25 years, its “inertial phenomena” is preserved to some extent but agree that you will not see such a thing at least in large clinics, you pay the amount to the cash, and no one bothers you with “money” issues.  Certainly, money is not affordable for an individual, who received an average salary, certainly, the state order mechanism is working poorly.  But these are other issues and have nothing to do with cognac and flowers.  While the true corruption in healthcare is in different places, and deal with such sums that no surgeon and moreover, a nurse even dreams about it.

Will Levon Altunyan be able to fight against these phenomena?  It depends on how much “carte blanche” he will get from the prime minister and the president.  This is a very tough task.  But he gives light answers to light journalistic questions, without any complexes.  Like all smart people, he does not treat his personality too seriously.

… The expression of paranoia and overly serious attitude to your own person is the obsessive idea of being a victim of persecution, as well as publicly and artistically expressed “fear” that I am so important and can cause such a big damage to my enemies that they want to destroy me.  Do you remember the time when Artashes Geghamyan was keeping two bullet-proof vests at home?
