The genocide and not only

October 18,2016 11:26

Hillary Clinton even if she has promised to recognize the Armenian Genocide, anyway, she will not do it when she becomes a US president.  Donald Trump hardly has ever heard about the Armenian Genocide, I even doubt that he at least roughly know where Armenia is located on the world map.  Hence, none of the current presidential candidates causes interest to us in this sense.  Another question that our interests, in my opinion, should not be limited to Genocide.

Certainly, the problem, first of all, refers to our fellows as US citizens.  I am sure that the majority of them will make a choice based on how Clinton’s or Trump’s economic programs will promote or, on the contrary, obstacle their welfare.  This is normal, the way it should go.  Anywhere in the world where something similar to the elections happens, people vote based on their material interests.  Simply, in the countries like Armenia, no one believes any program, and many people prefer taking their 5-10 thousand drams in “cash” followed by the logic of “getting a tuft of wool from a mangy sheep is better than nothing”.

But the voters’ logic is the same everywhere: their economic interests in the first place then the rest.  But it is clear that the US-citizen Armenians like the Chinese, Hispanic, Jewish and others also have national interests.  What I am saying is that in our case, viewing these interests in recognizing the Armenian Genocide or not, saying this word on April 24 or not, to put it mildly, is an outdated approach.

It seems to me that there is a more significant question: to what extent the United States will be interested in the development of Armenia’s economy naturally rather than in an “oligarchic” manner, in our officials respecting the law, in our country actually and not on the paper following the Western democratic model.  I think that it also stems from our national interests that the United States restrains the unsubstantiated imperial ambitions of Russia.  I do not know to what extent the American Armenians are interested in all this.  But if they are interested, then they will give the preference to Hillary Clinton.

… Recently, information was spread out that allegedly the “Islamic state” has called in to vote in the favor of Clinton.  Such brutal campaign reminds us the disinformation style of the famous Soviet and Russian institution.
