This morning, President of the Republic of Armenia Serj Sarksian, who is on a working visit to the city of Mastricht of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to participate in the summit of the European People’s Party (EPP), prior to the launch of the summit, visited the city’s Saint Karapet Armenian Church where he had a short meeting with representatives of the “Ani” Armenian community, which is a member of the church’s council. During the meeting, the President talked about the community’s daily activities, problems, programs and projects, the opportunities for the strengthening of cooperation with Armenia and answered questions from the participants of the meeting, as reported the press service of the RA President.
The Armenian community, which is named in memory of the historic Armenian capital, actively participates in the events of Dutch-Armenian organizations devoted to pan-Armenian issues.
In 2012, upon the decision of the Catholic Church of Limburg, the Church of the Ascension of Christ was dedicated to the Armenian community. In 2013, the Church was consecrated as the Saint Karapet Church in memory of the old Armenian church of Amsterdam. The donation was made as a token of appreciation of Saint Cervantes (student of Saint Gregory the Illuminator and considered the saint of Mastricht), as well as the good contributions that the “Ani” Armenian community and the Armenians of Mastricht have made to the development of the city and the state.
