Refraining from admiration

October 29,2016 16:41

Yesterday someone said to me “Don’t you admire Karen Karapetyan’s government a lot?”. I should say right away that no government, no official and no statesman can deserve my or somebody’s admiration. And it is not only in our country but perhaps in all the countries of the world. Maybe, people admire their leader in Korea, but it is clear that after a “change of the situation” all those who admire will crush the statues of their idol in such small pieces that it cannot be handed even as scrap-metal. For instance, I admire Mozart music.

But if one of us- the citizens of Armenia- want to do something instead of sitting on the sofa and grumbling, I cannot wait maliciously when he/she will fail and say that “I knew that”. Moreover, not necessarily the citizen should be a prime minister, he can be, let’s say, a housewife who has decided to bake unique cakes and sell them to the neighbors at a low price in order to assist her family.

He can be an IT specialist who has decided not to get bored with everyday work and wants to write a new program. Eventually, he can be a businessman who has decided not to bribe customs officers and assessors and openly present those “personages” with their names to the media.

In short, an attempt to do something can be done by different people and have different expressions. Perhaps they are not worthy of admiration, but on the other hand we should not approach with prejudice, with a stance of an angry “petulant” man. Such “petulant ” stereotypes in the new government first of all are seen on the media, and it is natural because majority of them has connections with the people who had some positions and now they do not have that posts and it is not delightful to them to hear anything good about the current official. Humanly it is understandable, but we all should limit our “egos” and be a little bit more well-disposed.

It does not mean at all that Karen Karapetyan’s government will definitely be on success or the members of the government have not managed to do anything wrong.  Let me repeat that there is no admiration and there should not be. But sometimes it is good to encourage people.

When 22 years ago Vano Siradeghyan offered me to become a newspaper editor, my first reaction was quite natural “I am unable to edit a newspaper”, to that Vano replied “Trust my experience, I know better who is able of what”.
