The Council of Justice granted motion to detain Judge Ishkhan Barseghyan

During the session held on October 28 the Council of Justice decided to grant the motion filed by the RA Prosecutor General regarding the detention of Judge Ishkhan Barseghyan.

The Council of Justice has issued two rulings:
1. To grant motion filed by the RA Prosecutor General. To offer the RA President to approve the decision on involving Ishkhan Barseghyan, Judge of General Jurisdiction Court of First Instance of Shengavit Administrative District, as a defendant.
2. To grant motion filed by the RA Prosecutor General. To offer the RA President to approve the decision on detaining Ishkhan Barseghyan, Judge of General Jurisdiction Court of First Instance of Shengavit Administrative District.

Earlier NSS (National Security Service) press service has reported that on the purpose of issuing a verdict in favor of one of the sides involved in a civil case trial Judge of General Jurisdiction Court of Shengavit Administrative District Ishkhan Barseghyan has demanded and personally received 1000 USD bribe in one of Yerevan undergrounds. The process of handing over the bribe has been carried out under the supervision of the officials of the National Security Service. The launched criminal case has been submitted to the Prosecutor General’s Office which has sent it to Special Investigation Service.

Later Special Investigation Service informed that a criminal case was launched under the requirements of Part 4 (Point 3) of Article 311 of the RA Criminal Code (receiving significant amount of bribe by a judge), after which The Prosecutor General’s Office filed a motion to the Council of Justice asking to involve the judge as a defendant and to detain him.
