Moscow-based young photographer, director Arthur Mkrtchyan has recorded achievements in the international photo competitions and exhibitions. The artist has planned to realize a film production in the field of VR (Virtual Reality), which is already envisaged to be included in the annual Biennale program on June, 2017, in Vienna. Speaking to “Aravot” Arthur Mkrtchyan assured that he had conducted inquiries in Moscow, the USA, Japan, European countries and elsewhere, but nowhere could they offer a solution to the VR movable film production. We asked him to clarify what VR film meant.
– There is not yet a complete VR film in the filed, but there are separate episodes, interesting solutions in the form of games and experiments. There are spatial works in the form of photo at 360 degree. But I repeat there is not yet a complete film produced in this filed in the world. And the technology is the following: the audience wears a special electronic helmet through which he/she sees the photo from different angels and different positions, in short with the help of the helmet the person appears absolutely in another world and as the person wishes, he/she can control from which position he/she wants to watch the photo. The same applies to film watching,” said our interlocutor.
These are some of the photo-works of Arthur Mkrtchyan in the photo. To our inquisitiveness why he does not realize the idea of producing such a film in Moscow, Arthur Mkrtchyan replied,
– The theoretical – practical – implementation solution to the unexpected for me problem, I found in Armenia by the Armenian scientific -technical team (Interactive World- www.iw.am). In the result of the preliminary comprehensive research work, we jointly decided that the film should be produced in Armenia. It is an activity of the modern technological achievements that has not been realized yet and in the result of the preliminary research our team is capable of realizing the production of the first unique VR film discussed in the world.”
The director assures that every effort will be made to find the funding for the film only in Armenia so that the expected huge profits stay in our country. During the talk the director informed that there was preliminary agreement with such celebrities as the world longest lived model, 92-year old Carmen, actresses Monica Bellucci, Sophia Loren, etc for “being shot” (being programmed) in the film. The audience will be in helmet. To the question whether Armenian actors would be invited, the director said that from our artists only the ballet team of the National Opera Theatre would be invited. To the remark that if the project failed or got late for the Biennale, our interlocutor said,
– “At least today I exclude the failure but if we are late for the Biennale, then we will organize premieres in let’s say Paris, London, New York… But if everything goes as planned, after presenting the film in Biennale, there will not be a need even for advertisement. On the contrary after such a universal achievement we should try to ensure the endless list of the scheduled countries that would like to see the technological achievement in their countries. ”
During the conversation, we talked also about Arthur Mkrtchyan’s photographic art of what people in Armenia are unaware. On this the artist said,
– “I wish to present mostly in the homeland.”
