“Trump’s election, in fact, was the victory of the protestant electorate because people were tired and approaches out of standard are more popular now,” in the conversation with Aravot.am said member of Armenia-USA Friendship group, deputy Edmon Maruqyan interpreting the victory Republican Donald Trump- the 45th president of the USA.
He said that now preference is given to non- standard approaches not only in the USA but also in the whole world.
“This is a tendency and it is not only in the American democracy that such problems arise. We have what we have, and everybody should respect the choice of the USA people.”
To the question what Trump’s victory would give us Edmon Maruqyan said that from the point of view of the Armenian-American relationships there would not be any changes because those relations were not changed conditioned by the elections of the presidents.
“Maybe it would have been better for us if Clinton were elected in a sense that she had been in Armenia twice and she knows our problems, she is aware of the NKR issue. In this regard perhaps it would have been better for us if Hilary Clinton had won. But now we have what we have.”

To our question, “Is it true that the Armenian community of America announced that they did not support any of the candidates?”
He answered, “As far as I know the votes were divided, the representatives of the community voted both for Trump and for Clinton.”
As it is known after the results of the elections were announced Clinton called Trump and congratulated. in the words of Edmon Maruqyan, ” This is a part of the tradition of the American elections. Besides calling, she should have delivered a speech and announced that she had lost. It is still a question whether she will make a speech or not because there is information that she called him on the condition that she would not make a spech, thus Trump will not demand a speech. There is such information.”
In the observation of Edmon Maruqyan, why such things do not happen after the Armenian elections, “There are so many violations till the day of the election that there is no space left for congratulating each other and accepting the results. If the elections were fair, for instance I wanted if I had participated in fair elections and had lost, I would have congratulated, if I had won, they would have congratulated me. This is a very important tradition, that we should develop, but before we develop that tradition we should hold fair elections then require people congratulate.”
