Vicar of Constantinople Patriarch of Armenia, Archbishop Aram Ateshyan’s arrival in Armenia has invited tempers. The reason is his Patriarch’s shocking letter to the Turkish President Erdoğan regarding the Bundestag statement on the recognition of the Armenian Genocide. Aravot.am contacted Fr. Vahram Melikyan, the Director of Information Services of the Armenian Apostolic Church of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, Spokesperson of His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, with a request to comment on this, and also inquired about the purpose of the mission of Archbishop Aram and by whose invitation he had arrived in Armenia.
“Archbishop Aram Ateshyan has arrived in Armenia accompanied by clergymen like any other member of the Brotherhood of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin does if desired. It is a brief visit, and certainly, he will meet with His Holiness. There is nothing bizarre here, high-rank clergymen of the hierarchal sees and our dioceses have always visited the Holy See,” said Fr. Vahram.
