A traditional video conference that connected Armenian peacekeepers serving in Kosovo and Afghanistan with their family members was organized as part of NATO Week in Armenia on Tuesday.

Despite the fact, that many of the relatives of the Armenian serviceman keep regular contact, the event, which was organized at Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was another opportunity to talk and see each other.

One of the participants of the video call Aramayis Yerznkyan told reporters about his son Davit who is serving in Kosovo and is about to complete his service in December.

“Davit came from army service and decided to continue his military service. Every time we speak he is in high mood and never complains,” Yerznkyan told.

To note, Davit’s brother Mher Yerznkyan received a fatal gunshot wound on the night of April 5-6 this year near Tchambarak.

The son of Susanna Adamyan, Sevada is serving in Kosovo. “He has been inspired by the military life since childhood and still happy with his commitment. We are proud of him,” Susanna told Panorama.am.

To note, Armenia’s contribution to international peacekeeping missions in different states started in 2004, with mission responsibilities, including checkpoint and perimeter security, conducting patrols, riot and crowd control and convoy security. For different periods Armenian peacekeepers have served under the US, German, and Greek command. Today there are 121 Armenian peacekeepers in Afghanistan and 35 – in Kosovo.

US Ambassador to Armenia Richard Mills was present at the video conference as well.
The Ambassador stated that American soldiers praise and highly appreciate the service of the Armenian brigade. To Ambassador Mills, the service of the Armenian peacekeepers embodies the best relations between the countries, the joint work in NATO and under the UN.

Meanwhile, Ambassador of Germany in Armenia Matthias Kiesler on behalf of his country thanked the Armenian servicemen for the outstanding service.

“You are serving in a difficult region, especially when it refers to Afghanistan. You are under constant threats. Armenia’s peacekeeping missions both in Kosovo and Afghanistan proves how much Armenia values the global security. I think this serves as an important signal Armenia is sending. I wish all of you a secure service and return home,” the Ambassador told.
