Armenia’s National Assembly on Thursday overwhelmingly adopted a bill proposing compulsory insurance payments for the military.
The amount, 1,000 Armenian Drams (AMD 479.03 = US$1) will be deduced from monthly salaries to cover any physical damages or losses inflicted upon servicemen or their families in the wake of military operations.
102 lawmakers supported the bill, with three voting “against”.
Minister of Defense Viken Sarksian, who initiated the draft law shortly after being appointed to office, justified the proposed payments as a necessary measure for assisting the army.
