Today the film “Ashik Kerib” made by the prominent Armenian filmmaker Sergei Parajanov will be screened in the Armenian Culture and Solidarity Association Hall of Istanbul. During the evening Onur Haytac, a researcher at Istanbul’s Marmara University, will deliver a speech. Dianet agency reports.
Director of Sergei Parajanov’s Museum Zaven Sargsyan told Panorama.am that he is not aware of the screening but added that they welcome the initiative, as “the more the film is screened, the better.”
He noted that in 1989 Parajanov won Special Jury Award for this film during the Istambul International Film Festival.
“The film covers a Muslim topic. Parajanov shot this film to show that the nations cannot hate each other,” Z. Sargsyan added.

The film was produced by the “Georgian Film” production company and was released in 1988, It is dedicated to Andrei Tarkovsky’s memory. The movie is based on Mikhail Lermontov’s homonymous fairy tale.
The film tells about poor minstrel Gharib (Kerib) who wanders the countryside in search of his fortune hoping to to win the hand of a Turkish merchant’s daughter.
