– In recent days, the situation in the line of contact between the armed forces of Karabakh and Azerbaijan has escalated again. What are the peculiarities of the escalation of this stage?
– Essentially, there is no sharp escalation of tensions however, the situation is more active against the background of the incidents that took place in recent months. Azerbaijan was using a small artillery in decent days with mortars of various calibers. Incidentally, this activation was reported parallel with the large-scale military exercises launched in Azerbaijan which conveys additional tension to the situation.
– A day before, the President of Azerbaijan made different statements. In particular, the President of Azerbaijan stated that if the armed forces of Armenia does not draw right conclusions from the actions in April, in the future, a large number of successful operations will be carried out, by bringing the example of the control of the Azerbaijani armed forces on the heights of Jabrail. Which is Ilham Aliyev’s main message in your opinion?

– I think, Azerbaijan’s armed forces have two main assignments: a maximum plan – preparation for large-scale military operations to solve the Karabakh conflict thru military way, and a minimum plan – carrying out large-scale operations in all directions of the contact line by involving great resources. At least a control over small areas as it happened during the April war in the direction of the same Jabrail.
– What is the goal, especially since it is reported that Azerbaijani army has carried out these actions during the April war at the expense of big losses?
– The loss of human, military and economic resources in Azerbaijan is subordinated to political “victories.” After 25 years of promises, Ilham Aliyev is trying to replace the “victorious” slogans on the “return of Karabakh” with the thesis of the “return of Karabakh step by step “. Therewith, he gains both time and is able to “feed” the society with local victories, first of all, solving the problem of his power, otherwise, a serious wave of resistance inside the country can be mobilized.
