As to what the formation of the united group of Armenian-Russian armed forces has in mind, politician Armen Badalyan will tell when he gets acquainted with the final text of the agreement.
“It’s hard to say exactly what this union represents. But we can approximately say that it will happen the same as with the armed forces of South Ossetia, i.e. when the South Ossetia armed forces were included as part of the armed forces of Russia, certainly, they turned into a division of the Southern Military Okrug. This certainly contributes to the defense of the security of South Ossetia, at the same time, strengthening Russian influence in the South Ossetia territory and accordingly in the Caucasus too. The same will take place with the armed forced in Armenia… naturally, this process will strengthen the influence of Russian armed forces on the armed forces of Armenia, at the same time, it will contribute to the growth of the security of the Russian Federation” said the politician to Aravot.am.
According to him, as a result of the formation of united forces, the defense of the security of Armenia will further be strengthened, “If they know that Russian armed forces are deployed in Armenia, certainly, no one will attack Armenia, in my opinion, no one is going to attack Armenia. The problem is that this initiative is aimed at strengthening Russia’s positions in the South Caucasus.” Mr. Badalyan did not exclude that as a result of the formation of united armed forces, a new Russian military base will be added in Armenia, and this according to the politician does not depend on the willingness of the President of Armenia, “Whatever Russia needs will do it, and Russia does not care about the opinion of the President of Armenia, to say the least.”
