Alexander Arzumanyan about the concerns associated with Trump
Former RA Foreign Minister Alexander Arzumanyan, in an interview with “Aravot”, dispelled all the concerns that until January 20 when US President Donald Trump has not yet taken up his responsibilities and Obama has ended, by using this corridor, Azerbaijan will try to change the status quo in Nagorno-Karabakh and will submit the issue to Trump in that status. Alexander Arzumanyan said, “The US elections are held every 4 years and there has never been a problem. Their political system is such, the mechanism is working in a way that there is no such problem there. It is just the so-called transition, a replacement process where the power is handed over to the winning side peacefully. There is no problem, all the institutions are working with 100 percent readiness.”
The fact that Azerbaijani President Aliyev in these days was meeting with his soldiers, talking about the war in April and prepares them, it’s another issue. As mentioned by Mr. Arzumanyan, “Aliyev will always try but it should not be associated with the elections in the United States. We associate it with the elections in the case that they are electoral processes, this-or-that country will not be so much interested in active involvement in the negotiation process. Any elections: in Russia, France, the USA, Armenia and Azerbaijan, has always caused a pause in the process because the process enters into a waiting phase and waiting for the end of the elections but it should not be associated with military operations. The military operations may commence both in the pre-election period and after the elections, always. It will happen when one of the parties, in this case, Azerbaijan, will feel that it is able to make some changes. But the overall security system of the United States regardless of the exotics of the elections will remain unchanged, will continue to operate as a single mechanism.”
To the observation that there are concerns that there is anarchy in the United States during this period, Alexander Arzumanyan responded, “The US is not a country like ours that someone gets sick and the whole country will collapse. Even the entire elite of the United Stated dies, tomorrow this country will work as normal again.”

These days, Donald Trump’s videos were fierily discussed on the Internet about how he has appeared in Aliyev’s son-in-law, singer Emin Agalarov’s video and tried to find connections between Azerbaijan and Trump. To the question of whether his personal relationships may have an impact on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Alexander Arzumanyan replied, “Trump will have to be guided by the US national interest. His personal preferences, his relationships, his business interests are his personal problems. Look, 3 days after the elections, Trump already steps back from all his campaign statements which mean that he realizes that there are US national interests, there is s continuity, there is preferred approach to foreign policy which he is obliged to follow. Let’s wait and see. There will be differences on some issues but overall, no need to expect great cataclysms.”
