“Radical measures need to be taken not to feel once again that they are talking idle.”  Response to the Prime Minister

November 23,2016 15:43

“We have a neighboring country where not in the far past, just in one night, people were able to eradicate all fallacious things, put an end to corruption and corrupt officials, and defined grave penalties for those perpetrators.  Today, if there is a will and political decision to create such a situation, radical steps need to be taken very quickly rather than once again feel that they are talking idle,” so reacted Chairman of Union of Exporters, Raffi Mkhchyan, in an interview with Aravot.am, responding to Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan’s statement of seeing the need for rapid changes in the economy.

Recall that the Prime Minister assured in the interview with “Bloomberg” agency that a peer competing field will be created, “The businesses should not encounter problem by the corrupt officials who expect to get money for the adoption of administrative decisions.  They should not have obstacles by other business using political connections which restrict the competition.”

“They know very well where these corrupt officials are, who are getting the advantage of their official positions, who are able not to change the situation today, everything is open, just a political will is necessary.  I am not a politician, I am a man of economy, I am the Chairman of the Union of Exporters, I am also a businessman, it affects me too, I also want and dream of having a homeland which will be free of bribe-takers, and not to think for every small action about whom and how much to give bribes to advance my business.  It requires radical measures today, so far I see no radical measure.  I nurse great hope with Karen Karapetyan’s name because I have had the impression that he is a professional manager but his only being professional is not enough to resolve these issues, I think, a political will is necessary and all this can be done in one night,” said Mr. Mkhchyan.

To our question that even in the event of a political will he considers that Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan will manage to carry out the changes mentioned by him by April, Mr. Mkhchyan replied, “If they are able to keep their promises even by 20-30%, they can provide new elections again.  The problem is the issue of remaining in power, today there is an issue of reproduction which requires certain measures to take and as to what extent these measures will get to the businessman, to what extent the entrepreneur will get the use of it, we will measure six months later”.
