“I guess this step was predictable and logical for many people, however I want to explain the reasons of making such a decision,” PM Karen Karapetyan noted during today’s Cabinet session after making an announcement to join the Republican Party of Armenia.
“Firstly, President of the RPA and RA Serzh Sargsyan invited me to hold the position of the Armenian Prime Minister.
Secondly, each government must have a political basis, and our government was first of all the government of the RPA faction.
Thirdly, if we do not take into account the first two points, some people might put forward a theoretical question why we do not establish another party to become a political support for us. It will not be justified simply. With Karabakh conflict and the constant threats against our country’s security, we must avoid all possible destabilization processes and developments.
The forth point is which party can become a political basis for the implementation of reforms? I believe it is the RPA, as I support the conservative ideology of the party,” RA PM noted.

PM noted one of the major problems set by him after he assumed the post of the Prime Minister, was the following: “There is a necessity to make tangible changes in the economic, social life, especially in the public administration system, which means that we must be the change first of all.”
He said this issue is clearly put forward in the RPA.
“The fifth point is by assuming the post of the PM, I joined the process to change and be changed by undertaking my share of responsibility. Taking into consideration of all these I have made a decision to join the RPA.
As a sixth reason I want to state that many of my colleagues and supporters are willing to take part in this process by giving a new impetus to it. Is it obligatory for the non-partisan Ministers and my teammates to join the RPA? No, there is no such obligation,” Karapetyan noted adding that it is up to everyone’s conscious and ideological decision.
The PM noted that like other parties, RPA has not always functioned effectively based on objective or subjective reasons. However Karapetyan believes that the RPA is the party which, realizing its responsibility for the country’s security and development, has decided to change and has that potential in it.
