“Coarseness” against “coarseness”

November 26,2016 11:56

This week, the European Parliament passed a resolution calling on to fight against Russia’s official campaign which in the opinion of the European parliamentarians is directed against the European Union and its individual member states as well as is aimed at splitting the Union.

The resolution draws a parallel between this campaign and the activities of the “Islamic State” terrorist group.

Actually, in the last 3-4 years, especially since the time when the former Soviet Union countries in one way or another were participating in the “Eastern Partnership” programs, this campaign has become more aggressive, “coarse” and is accompanied by a “gas” and military pressures in the event when it is possible.  The Kremlin believes that the “Eastern Partnership” is a tool aimed at weakening of the influence of their country, and since there are no cultural and civilizational mechanisms to counter them (the “Eurasianism” does not have its potential”), it remains only the force and propaganda brutal pressure, particularly what is aptly called in their language – хамство (boorishness).  The worst thing is that not only the European countries are the target but also the European values: freedom, tolerance, open-mindedness, values which in my understanding are also Christian, and therefore, to the opportune, official Moscow’s “religious outpourings” seem strange to me.

But when the campaign counters campaign, Russia’s created “coarse” structures are countered to European “coarse” structures, the opposite side also feels a deviation from the values which are fairly called “European”.  First, the comparisons with ISIS are not relevant at all, Russia does not propagate killing people for having different beliefs, racism is not the Kremlin’s official ideology.  Secondly, if I am principally against censorship and wish to have a perfect freedom of expression then I should not demand myself that the figures under my subordination, particularly in the “Eastern Partnership” countries, never say a good thing about Russia, or necessarily present the situation in these countries in the darkest colors.  War propaganda, in my opinion, is a bad thing irrespective by whom it is carried out.

… Can anyone say that the US leading media were covering the Clinton-Trump pre-election campaign balanced?  Maybe there is also a sort of “Central Committee” or “presidential” there?
