Armenia’s Agriculture Minister Ignati Arakelyan has called for efforts to raise the competitiveness of local agricultural products in order to exclude an advantageous position of the importers over the local producers.
As the press department at the Ministry of Agriculture reports, the minister’s comments came at a consultation with Chairman of the Armenian Association of Greenhouse Facilities Poghos Gevorgyan, Chair of the Branch Republican Trade Unions Organizations of Agro industrial Divisions of Armenia Hasmik Jhangiryan, Head of RA Food Security State Service Ishkhan Karapetyan and other officials.
According to the press statement, the participants of the consultation discussed issues related to the tomato sale in the Armenian market. Poghos Gevorgyan has informed that tomato and cucumber imported from Turkey have been sold on the territory of the republic. After appealing to the ministry, the import of the Turkish agricultural products was ceased and the stored vegetables are now brought to the market in limited volumes.
The minister has stressed the issue of promoting the local product throughout the market requires consistency and joint work of not only state bodies but also the involvement of the relevant stakeholders, NGOs active participation.
