“Erdoğan’s statement was an emotional outburst.”  Levon Hovsepyan

December 02,2016 12:46

“Erdoğan’s such statement cannot have a significant impact on the settlement of the Syrian conflict,” said Turkologist Levon Hovsepyan in an interview with Aravot.am.  Recall that recently the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, had said that Turkey’s military force has launched operations in Syria to overthrow Syrian President Bashar Assad’s power.  “It was an emotional outburst appropriate to Erdoğan’s style which also pursues a campaign goal.  This is a message associated with the fact that the government forces in Aleppo have shown a success which could disturb Turkey.

On the other hand, what is going on in Syria in the context of the “Euphrates Shield” military action is agreed with Russia,” noted the expert.  Levon Hovsepyan also mentioned that the Turkish official circles have hurried to “edit” Erdoğan’s statement, “A statement was issued from the presidential residential office that Erdoğan’s words should not be understood literally, one of the ministers said that the “Euphrates Shield” would not have had success without Russia, Chavushoglu in turn tried to “edit” Erdoğan’s statement.”  According to our interlocutor, Erdoğan’s statement cannot affect the Russia-Turkey relations on Syria, “Lavrov was in Turkey today, negotiated are underway, the parties have mentioned about continuing the cooperation.”
