The 2017 Nissan Frontier continues to pull hard for the brand. It’s due for a major overhaul but it isn’t hurting sales.

The 2017 Nissan Frontier has experienced an impressive 41.5 percent increase in sales this year even in its aging condition. Frontier is getting long in the tooth, but it hasn’t slowed sales this year. The redesigned Frontier is on its way, yet sales continue to be strong for the “new” 2017 model before Frontier gets a major remodel in 2018.

In November, both the Frontier and new Titan pickups saw gains over the previous year’s monthly sales. The aging Frontier was up a meager 0.1 percent and the completely redesigned full-size 2017 Titan is up a huge 363.0 percent in its third month of sales.

Frontier is next up for a major redesign

Frontier is competing in a sizzling-hot mid-size pickup market with the newly-remodeled Toyota Tacoma and Chevy Colorado and it needs to be updated. The pickup market is one of the fastest growing segments and Nissan wants to cash in. The Titan was the first priority for Nissan and now the Frontier is next on the drawing board.

The aging Frontier isn’t keeping buyers away from showrooms. It’s still a good option for mid-size truck buyers and they are still buying the model in big numbers. When the new model does arrive, likely next year, look for it to feature much-needed exterior and interior styling changes along with Nissan’s latest NissanConnect and mobile apps. It will also get engine upgrades and improved fuel-mileage. It will also likely get bigger with more legroom in the rear.

Now that the new Nissan Titan XD has arrived, Nissan’s next big project will be to update its aging midsize Frontier. It hasn’t hurt sales of the Frontier yet, but it is badly in need of a complete makeover. It’s coming and it will compete well with the Toyota Tacoma, Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon. Look for the 2018 Nissan Frontier to be a major player in the competitive mid-size pickup market when it finally arrives.
