Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan received representatives of a number of international donor organizations.
The Premier stressed the importance of similar meetings and thanked the guests for cooperation. Noting that the Government of Armenia is keen to increase the effectiveness of joint efforts, Karen Karapetyan said he would like to discuss the 3 main issues.
“First: we have initiated a PIU optimization campaign. We have already dissolved 5 project implementation offices and are going to embark upon the next stage of optimization. We want to negotiate with you on this matter and explain our purpose, namely we wish to make the work more efficacious and cost-effective.
Second: loans, credit programs and priorities. You may know that the size of our external debt is sufficiently high, and we want to discuss with you and determine the goals, the rules of the game to deal with the loans. We will henceforth be selective and list the programs in order of priority for financing.
Third: by yearend –over the next couple of days – we are going to set up a center for strategic initiatives or, in other words, a reform center, in the frame of which we will be collaborating with all interested parties, including the private sector, in order to decide where to go and which way to lead our country.
We need to discuss all initiatives, strategies and the reforms by sectors – long-term and short term – in order to clearly understand which way we should move our economy,” the Prime Minister emphasized, adding that he expected international donor organizations to cooperate and support the Government throughout this process.
In conclusion, with the participation of the ministers responsible and the representatives of international donor organizations, the meeting discussed the priorities of cooperation as outlined by the Prime Minister, the scope of joint projects and future activities.
