Every person is free to choose

December 14,2016 13:21

I do not know Azerbaijani propagandist Vahan Martirosyan as a civic activist. I know him as a man who cynically has abused my friend Ruzan Marguni’s kindness and trust and has robbed her. I have not even heard of a journalist by the name Suzan Jaghinyan although I am in this business quite a long time. If she has also violated the law then yes, our law enforcement agencies need to deal with it and it is very bad that they have not dealt with it. I assume that it is only their deeds that go unpunished in Armenia.

But when their moving to Baku and propagating in favor of Azerbaijan from there is becoming a subject of heated debates and accusations by Armenia, frankly speaking, I am amazed at it. Every person has the right to choose its place of residence. This norm is covered in the Constitution too. People are moving, let’s say, to Glendale and then leave a post on the social networks that “here, in Glendale, it is good for us while there, in Armenia, it was bad.” This does not generate negative emotions in us, on the contrary, we sometimes even encourage these people, “You see what caring Armenians they are? They are true patriots and after drinking two shots they start cursing the RA authorities, hence the homeland is in their hearts.” Now, two people are feeling better in Baku than in Yerevan, well fed up and warmer, “maybe they are thinking about the future of their children.” Are we in a state of war with Azerbaijan, right? But the new Baku residents do not care about it. Why should we bother about these people? Everyone is free to choose where to live, what to advertise, what to praise and what to pick on.

About propaganda. There are few media outlets in Azerbaijan, they are mainly means of propaganda. (There are not many in Armenia too). The fact that in the neighboring country, the means of propaganda are used to say something bad about Armenia opportune or inopportune, it is normal. Our propagandist should probably behave so. Maybe they do so, to be honest, it is not interesting to me because journalism and propaganda are totally different and independent sectors. I can certainly avoid noticing that here, in Armenia, the means of propaganda are engaged in advertising or counter-advertising the government or the opposition. It is also a business, neither good nor bad from other businesses.

Eventually, I would like to ask a question to truly concerned people. Who causes more harm to the security of Armenia: the Azerbaijani propagandists with Armenian surnames or the Armenian generals with their big belly who have built four-story palaces?
