“It will be a very serious achievement and progress for Armenia,” – says the parliamentarian
“There are serious prospects in the development of Armenian-Iranian relations,” – Shirak Torosyan, a member of NA RPA faction, in the conversation with Aravot.am. He especially emphasized the importance of Iran-Armenia transport communication and in particular, the need for building a railway.
We inquired whether there are prospects for the fulfillment of the project. “The idea is evolving but it is a project that requires huge expenses. Everything must be done to fulfill the project as it would be a very major achievement and progress for Armenia and we will get rid of the Georgian transport monopoly. I think that the regional countries are also interested in this issue as it will be a new Silk Road, a new railway route linking the West with the East,” noted the parliamentarian. “Do you see opportunities that the Armenian side will start the construction of its section of the railway?”, in response to this question, Shirak Torosyan said, “We must do it. There was a time when many people did not believe that the Iran-Armenia gas pipeline will be real, but Armenia obtained this source of gas.”
Note that Hassan Rouhani will visit Armenia on Wednesday. According to press reports, the Government of Armenia is looking for investments for the construction of Armenia-Iran railway. The project as an investment program was placed on the website of the RA Ministry of Economic Development and Investment.
