“Our neighbor Iran has a very large market but quite protected market approaches. In terms of the arrangements, Armenia is pretty liberal, while the customs duties in Iran are very high,” – said Garegin Melkonyan, First RA Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Investment, in response to the question of Aravot.am about what questions and tasks cab be discussed during the upcoming visit of Iran President Hassan Rouhani to Armenia. “As to what questions can be discussed, I believe, our continuous efforts should be directed to the increase of the volume of the export of our local products to the Iranian market. As for the size of the customs duties, the discussions should be developed in accordance with the EaEU regulations.
If the preferential rates are one-sided and not give to Armenia by Iran, they should be by the format of EaEU-Iran in which Armenia is an active player,” noted Garegin Melkonyan. He informed that the regard to the settlement of the rates of customs duties, Armenia has always applied to Iran to provide more favorable conditions for Armenian producers as the latter do not pose a threat to Iran. “There are pre-conditions to increase the trade turnover with Iran,” – assured our interlocutor. To add that Hassan Rouhani will visit Armenia on Wednesday.
