SFSS prevents import of dangerous food products

The State Food Security Service has tightened the border supervision in pre-holiday days with the intention of excluding the import of dangerous food products or products with expired date.

The Press Service of the State Food Security Service reports that within the framework of the border supervision and on the basis of the revealed violations the imports of 68 thousand 400 eggs, 1000kg butter, 22000kg salt, 4256kg vegetable paste, 1740kg  frozen minced chicken meat, 500kg cheese products with milk were prevented to the republic. All the above mentioned batches are subject to elimination or return.

25 pieces of infected cloves were also prevented from being imported and are to be eliminated.

The State Food Security Service also reminds that pursuant the RA law on “State Supervision of Food Safety” the import of the products subject to phytosanitary control are allowed only in case of the availability of a phytosanitary certificate granted by the exporting country. The law prescribes some exceptions, namely phytosanitary certificate is not demanded in case of the transportation of the products subject to phytosanitary control in postal transport, in the hand luggage of the plane passengers, the passengers of  coaches, passenger vehicles, as well as the workers of wagon-restaurants.

Based on the above mentioned requirements the physical and legal entities that carry out the imports are called on to act in compliance of the RA legislation and to refrain from importing the mentioned products without a phytosanitary certificate granted by the competent body, as well as products the volumes of which exceed the required maximum quantity (50kg for the general products, 20kg for pignut and 5kg for non-roasted coffee). In case of the revealed violations the import of the entire amount of the product will be banned pursuant to the law.
