“I have made up my mind to have an active participation in the political and electoral processes in particular,” – such a statement was made by former Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan. He announced that he is forming a team of like-minded to take part in the political processed – in the elections. Incidentally, Seyran Ohanyan had said that submitting a political application is not an end in itself for him but a new self-fulfillment to serve the motherland.
As to what extent it is right when a military person wants to enter the politics, the RPA faction MP Khosrov Harutyunyan replied, “The best manifestation to serve the motherland for a person with such military experience must be more effective use of his professional skills if not directly of the army then of the military-industrial complex. But this does not exclude to exercise his commitments before the motherland by being engaged in the politics. The question here is different: a statesman, a government official who has cooperated with the Republican Party for many years, whether he intends to continue his political activities in another party.”
According to Khosrov Harutyunyan, it would be logical if he would be engaged in the politics with the RPA and in the ranks of RPA, “If he does not say with which political party, we must assume that he cooperating with RPA for many years, however, believes that the policy implemented by this party does not meet his full expectations. And a question arises, when these approaches emerged, these questions are not shaped instantaneously. We could have talked about it long ago and perhaps do other steps.” Khosrov Harutyunyan said that he would not like to say criticizing words addressed to Seyran Ohanyan, he wishes him good luck if he wants to be engaged in the politics, only “if the matter is about serious and qualified political activity rather than a new group of resentful emerges.”
To the question of whether Seyran Ohanyan can be a serious rival for the RPA, Khosrov Harutyunyan replied, “I do not think that one person can create a competition with the RPA because actually, the RPA has a very solid structure and influential political abilities. Whether he with his skills and experience can gather people and a political team around him who can later send a challenge to the RPA, time will tell. But I have not noticed Seyran Ohanyan’s features as a politician. Time will tell.”
