Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan met with President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hassan Rouhani who is paying an official visit to the Republic of Armenia.
“I am very glad to meet with you and be the guest of the friendly Armenian people,” Hassan Rouhani said, adding that a number of agreements and arrangements had been made following his talks with RA President Serzh Sargsyan. Hassan Rouhani expressed the hope that all of the mutually agreed projects would be implemented in the future.
Welcoming President Hassan Rouhani’s visit to our country, the Prime Minister of Armenia said Armenia and Iran boast a hectic bilateral agenda, which creates a strong foundation for further development and expansion of relations. Prime Minister Karapetyan made a number of proposals that may go a long way toward strengthening the Armenian-Iranian economic relations and give a new impetus to bilateral exchanges. In particular, he suggested considering with the Iranian side the idea of creating a food certification center in Armenia, which might help simplify the conformity assessment procedures for goods and commodities and boost trade turnover between the two countries.
Highlighting the need for closer cooperation between Armenian and Iranian free economic zones from the perspective of trade relations, Prime Minister Karapetyan noted the importance of expanding the activities of Iranian companies in Armenia, taking into account the possibility of entering the EEU market. The parties took the opportunity to discuss simplification of transit-related procedures, build up a strong tourism potential and increase passenger traffic. Appreciating the steps aimed at stimulating the Armenian-Iranian cooperation, Hassan Rouhani said Iran would welcome any constructive proposal on the development of bilateral relations.
